The use of NDF products in preventing airborne transmission of COVID19 viruses
The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have recently issued guidance on their views about the transmission of the SARS-CoV2 virus, which has caused the COVID-19 pandemic. According to them, a significant level of transmission is caused by airborne transmission with a lower risk of surface (formite) transmission for indoor communities. Indoor communities refers to enclosed spaces using ventilation systems (air conditioning/climate control) such as office buildings, shopping malls, transport systems/ hubs, places of worship and entertainment outlets.
Given these findings of the WHO & US CDC, we would like to introduce and emphasize the use of NDF products on ventilation system filters and surfaces. The use of NDF products like NDF-Bio75™ and NDF-Bio75 Advance™ on ventilation filters will ensure long-lasting protection against the airborne SARS-CoV2 viruses. Treated filters and air-ducts will become the first line of defence when air is recirculated. Regular cleaning of the filters and air-ducts is also crucial in maintaining efficiency against airborne viral loadings.
Surface (formite) transmission will be less significant provided the surfaces are regularly cleaned. Regular cleaning is harder to define and therefore the use of NDF-Bio75™ and NDF-Bio75 Advance™ coatings will ensure continuous protection between the regular cleaning intervals and will not wash away during routine cleaning. NDF products are relevant in fighting this pandemic as antimicrobial surface coating will certainly reduce viral loadings and formite transmission on surfaces.
The use of NDF products will ensure effective protection during this pandemic, assuring a peace of mind against both formite and airborne transmission. The membrane of the SARS-CoV2 is vulnerable to NDF products as it is labile and can degrade easily on contact with NDF-Bio75™ and NDF-Bio75 Advance™ providing continuous protection between cleaning cycles.
